Appeals Committee - 18 August 2025

The meeting began with the election of a chairman. Councillor Candy moved, and Councillor Clegg seconded, a resolution that Councillor O’Keefe be appointed Chairman for the session. No declarations of interest were recorded by any member.

Following the election, the council moved to exclude the press and public from a portion of the agenda. C under the Local Government Act 1972, as amended, a resolution was passed—moved by Councillor O’Keefe and seconded by Councillor Candy—allowing the exclusion because the business involved the potential disclosure of exempt personal information concerning a request for travel assistance for a pupil attending Bodmin College.

The council then considered several travel‑assistance applications. The request for a pupil from Bodmin to attend Bodmin College had already been resolved through an appeal before the meeting, and no further action was taken. The application for a pupil from Redruth to attend Nancealverne School was approved, with the resolution moved by Councillor Candy and seconded by Councillor Clegg.

The remaining applications were all declined. The request for a pupil from Bude to attend Oak Tree School was refused (moved by Councillor Candy, seconded by Councillor O’Keefe); the request for a pupil from Liskeard to attend Red Moor School was refused (moved by Councillor Clegg, seconded by Councillor Candy); and the request for a pupil from St Austell to attend The Roseland Academy was refused (moved by Councillor O’Keefe, seconded by Councillor Clegg). These decisions concluded the travel‑assistance business for the meeting.
