Appeals Committee - 6 October 2025

The council meeting opened with a motion by Councillor Smith, seconded by Councillor Yelland, to elect Councillor Ball as Chairman for the session. The motion was carried without any declarations of interest from the members present.

A subsequent motion, moved by Councillor Ball and seconded by Councillor Yelland, sought to exclude the press and public from the consideration of specific business that might involve the disclosure of exempt personal information, as permitted under the Local Government Act 1972 (as amended). The council approved the exclusion, citing the likelihood of revealing information relating to an individual.

The primary business addressed was a series of travel‑assistance requests for pupils attending secondary and further‑education institutions. Each request—Hayle Academy (Hayle), Red Moor School (Liskeard), Launceston College (Launceston), and Helston Community College (near Penzance)—was moved by either Councillor Ball or Councillor Yelland, seconded by the other, and resolved to be refused. The motions were unanimously adopted, and no assistance was granted for any of the pupils.

Two of the requests (the one for Hayle Academy and the one for Launceston College) were accompanied by appeals, both of which were deferred for further consideration at a later date. No additional motions or debates were recorded before the meeting was adjourned.
