Appeals Committee - 7 July 2025

The meeting opened with the election of a Chairman. Councillor Clemens moved, and Councillor Clegg seconded, a resolution that Councillor Giles be appointed Chairman for the session. No declarations of interest were recorded by any member.

The minutes of the Appeals Committee meeting held on 7 April 2025 were subsequently approved. Councillor Clemens moved, and Councillor Giles seconded, a resolution that the minutes were correctly recorded and should be signed by the Chairman.

In accordance with the Local Government Act 1972 (as amended), the Council resolved to exclude the press and the public from consideration of certain items that involved exempt information. The excluded item related to a request for travel assistance for a pupil from Bodmin to attend Wadebridge School.

The remaining agenda items concerned a series of travel‑assistance applications for pupils attending schools outside their home localities. After discussion, the Council unanimously refused the following requests: (1) a pupil from Bodmin to attend Wadebridge School; (2) a pupil from Truro to attend Penair School; (3) a pupil from Redruth to attend Penair School; (4) a pupil from near Hayle to attend Mounts Bay Academy (the appeal for this case had been withdrawn prior to the meeting); (5) a second request for a pupil from near Hayle to attend Mounts Bay Academy; and (6) a pupil from near Looe to attend Quay View School. Each refusal was moved and seconded by various councillors, and the resolutions were adopted without amendment.
