Appeals Committee - 3 November 2025

The meeting opened with the election of the Chairman. Councillor O’Keefe moved, and Councillor Channon seconded, that Councillor Ball be appointed Chairman for the session. The motion was carried without any declarations of interest from the members present.

Following the election, the Council considered a motion to exclude the press and public from a portion of the business, citing the Local Government Act 1972 (as amended) and the likelihood that exempt information concerning an individual would be disclosed. The motion was moved by Councillor Ball and seconded by Councillor Channon; it was approved, and the relevant segment of the meeting was conducted in private.

The remaining agenda items concerned four separate requests for travel assistance for pupils attending schools outside their resident parishes. Each request was moved and seconded by various councillors, and all were resolved by refusal:

* A pupil from Mevagissey seeking assistance to attend Poltair School.

* A pupil from St Columb seeking assistance to attend Cornwall College (St Austell).

* A pupil from St Ives seeking assistance to attend Penwith APA.

* A pupil from near Torpoint seeking assistance to attend City College Plymouth.

In addition, an appeal related to the first request (Mevagissey to Poltair School) was withdrawn prior to the meeting, and the same appeal was noted as withdrawn a second time in the record. No further discussion or amendment to these decisions was reported.
