Appeals Committee - 1 December 2025

The meeting opened with the election of a Chairman. Councillor Channon moved, and Councillor Wilson seconded, a resolution that elected Councillor Ball as Chairman for the session. No declarations of interest were recorded.

The next item of business was the approval of the Appeals Committee minutes from 3 November 2025. Councillor Channon moved, and Councillor Ball seconded, a resolution that the minutes were correctly recorded and should be signed by the Chairman.

In accordance with the Local Government Act 1972 (as amended), the Council resolved to exclude the press and public from a portion of the meeting. The resolution, moved by Councillor Ball and seconded by Councillor Wilson, cited the likelihood of disclosing exempt information concerning an individual member’s request for travel assistance for a pupil attending Altarnun Primary School from an address in Launceston.

The bulk of the meeting dealt with a series of travel‑assistance requests for pupils from various schools. After discussion, the Council resolved to defer the request for a pupil attending Altarnun Primary School (moved by Councillor Channon, seconded by Councillor Ball). All other requests—  pupils attending Cornwall College St Austell, Cubert School, Helston Community College, Looe Community Academy, St Stephens CP School (Saltash), and Goonhavern Primary School—were refused. Each of these resolutions was moved and seconded by different pairings of Councillors Ball, Channon, and Wilson.
