Appeals Committee - 2 February 2026

The meeting began with the election of the Chairman. Councillor Clegg moved, and Councillor Wilson seconded, that Councillor O’Keefe be elected Chairman for the session. No declarations of interest were made, and Councillor O’Keefe confirmed he had no contact or connection with the appellants concerning agenda item 7.3.

The Committee then approved the official record of its recent work. Motions moved by Councillor Clegg and seconded by Councillor O’Keefe resolved that the minutes of the Appeals Committee meetings held on 17 November 2025 and 1 December 2025 were correctly recorded and should be signed by the Chairman.

In accordance with the Local Government Act 1972, as amended, the Council resolved to exclude the press and public from consideration of specific business that involved exempt personal information. The excluded items related to an individual appeal that was withdrawn prior to the meeting.

The remaining agenda focused on travel‑assistance requests for pupils. The Council approved a request for a pupil residing near St Austell to travel to St Erme with Trispen CP School. All other requests were declined: a pupil near Wadebridge to attend Tor View School, a pupil near St Austell to attend Penrice Academy (the appeal was withdrawn before the meeting), a pupil near Penzance to attend Germoe Community Primary School, and a pupil near Helston to attend Truro and Penwith College. Each decision was moved and seconded by the respective councillors and recorded as resolved.
