Chief Officers Employment Committee - 21 July 2025

The meeting began with a declaration that no Councillors had any interests to disclose. A motion was then put forward by Councillor Frost and seconded by Councillor Frank to exclude the press and public from a portion of the session. The council resolved, referencing the Local Government Act 1972 as amended, that the exclusion was necessary because the business to be considered would likely involve the disclosure of exempt information relating to individuals and potentially revealing their identities.

Following the private segment, Councillor Frost moved, and Counc by by R Parsonage seconded, a resolution concerning the appointment of the Strategic Director of Community Wellbeing. The council agreed that, after the final assessment stage and based on merit, the Chief Officer’s Employment Committee should offer the post to Claire Simpson, subject to the standard objections process and the procurement of appropriate references. The resolution also provided that, should the successful candidate decline the offer, delegated authority would be given to either the Chief Executive or the Chief People Officer to extend the offer to the next eligible candidate as determined by the committee.

Subsequently, Councillor Frost moved and Councillor Creek seconded a motion to re‑admit the press and public to the meeting. The council approved this motion, allowing media and members of the public to resume attendance for the remainder of the session.

The Chairman noted that there were no further items deemed urgent, and the meeting was concluded without additional business.
